In this workshop, participants will create unique art pieces using silver leaf, a material not often encountered in daily life.
Held at a gallery space in Roppongi, the session begins with a lecture by the artist-instructor on the basic techniques and handling of silver leaf. After learning the fundamentals, you’ll be invited to explore your own ideas and create an original piece of art.
You will also use acrylic paint to contrast textures with the silver leaf, allowing for a wide range of creative expression. The instructor will guide you through each step with care, so even complete beginners can join with confidence. All necessary materials will be provided.

You’ll take your completed artwork home with you after the workshop. The work will be created on a  22.7 × 15.8 cm size panel, a perfect size to easily display in your home.

After the art session, enjoy a relaxing tea time featuring summer-inspired blended tea and vegan sweets by Vegan Cafe Kurumaya. It’s a chance to unwind with your fellow participants and enjoy casual conversation in the lingering atmosphere of creativity.

Workshop Includes:
• Step-by-step lesson by the artist-instructor on techniques and creative process
• All necessary art materials
• Seasonal tea and vegan sweets prepared by Vegan Café Kurumaya
• Packing materials for your artwork to take home
• Viewing of sample works by the instructor-artist

About the Instructor:

Shuhei Fukuda

Born in Japan. Completed a doctoral program at Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts.
After intensive study in traditional Japanese painting, Fukuda began exploring modern expressions using traditional Japanese materials and methods.
Focusing especially on silver leaf, he allows his works to naturally change over time, reflecting the gentle relationship between artist and material through the natural tarnishing of silver. By emphasizing the material presence on the surface, his work seeks to express an East Asian view of nature and aesthetics that values the unaltered essence of the natural world.

Solo exhibitions include:
• Quiet Colors (RUE VERTE, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2023)
• Change / Constant = Universal (3331 Arts Chiyoda, Tokyo, 2019)

Group exhibitions include:
• Three Paths, Three Methods (House of Art, České Budějovice, Czech Republic, 2025)
• Touches (kvalitar, Prague, Czech Republic, 2025)
• MINIMAL \ REDUCTIVE (Five Walls Gallery, Melbourne, Australia, 2025)
