ABOUT US
PAN is a platform that explores uncharted contexts in Asia through exhibitions and cultural practices, fostering novel connections between thought and sensibility. Primarily focused on the preparations for the establishment of PAN Okinawa—an art center dedicated to contemporary Asian art scheduled to open in 2028—PAN mainly engages in the following two activities.
Scope: Through artworks and exhibitions, we explore new possibilities for curatorial practice and criticism in Asia and conduct exhibition research.
Site: Through daily life practices such as clothing, food, and shelter that promote coexistence with living creatures and consideration for the environment, we aim to offer proposals for diverse local cultures rooted in everyday life of regional communities.
PAN is a symbolic name with multiple interpretations: (1) a sound that signifies something bursting with excitement, like the beginning of something new, (2) the prefix of “panorama,” meaning “a view of everything in sight,” and (3) the initials of “Pan-Asian Network,” which represents a new hub for generating diverse interpretations in the Asian region.
PAN engages in dialogue with cultural facilities and movements that have emerged in East and Southeast Asia since the COVID-19 pandemic—“a third type of entity.” As a unique private institution that is neither a museum nor a gallery, PAN aims to create a new and evolving context for Asia, in parallel with forefront contemporary practices
